Oncology introduction : Oncology department mission is to provide the maximum possible and high quality care for cancer patients through prepared highly specialized staff. The department contains specialized units that include medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgery, hematology, pediatric oncology, and pain management. The staff works in a multidisciplinary fashion. It is equipped with the highest level of up-to-date infrastructure. For example, the Radiation Oncology unit of Wadi El Nile Hospital has been equipped with Versa HD radiotherapy machine for patients’ treatment under the supervision of staff members of National Cancer Institute at Cairo University. The Versa HD machine is characterized by high technology to treat tumors accurately and minimize the side effects of neighboring tissues. The medical oncology unit also provides the most recent systemic and chemotherapy drugs, while the hematology unit has been equipped with the recent facilities needed for bone marrow transplantation. All of these services are provided under the supervision of staff members of National Cancer Institute of Cairo University, and with regular visits from a group of distinguished international medical oncology experts.
